The release of short .ie domain names started in November 2015.
Around 700 previously unavailable one character and two letter .ie domain names are being made available for registration in a phased release process.
The Sunrise phase from November 16th 2015 – December 16th 2015 allowed holders of registered marks, valid in Ireland to make priority applications for their domain names identical to their registered one character or two letter marks. Sunrise application fee was €479+VAT. No auctions were required and around 25 domains were registered in that process.
The Landrush phase from February 21st 2016 – March 22nd 2016 allowed anyone to make a priority application for one or two letter domains not registered during Sunrise. Landrush was open to anyone normally eligible to register a .ie domain under the normal rules, with an auction process used to decide between multiple applicants. Landrush application fee was €179+VAT. Landrush auctions were held in the latter half of April with some domains making up to €10,000.
The Pre-release phase from April 16th 2016 – May 16th 2016 allowed anyone to make a priority application for one or two letter domains not registered during Sunrise or Landrush. Pre-release was open to anyone normally eligible to register a .ie domain under the normal rules. An advanced (de)queuing system submitted pre-release applications to the registry at the moment general availability started, ensuring maximum chance of registration. Pre-release application fee was €29.95+VAT.
General availability has now commenced, meaning that any remaining one or two letter domain names may be registered normally just like any other domain at https://www.irishdomains.com/ for €19.95+VAT.
